If you are you experiencing tooth pain this could mean you need a root canal; it’s your body’s way of telling you something isn’t right. Tooth pain can be a sign of any number of things including decay, a chip or break. 4 Excellence In Dentistry can determine if this is the case.

Pain is usually different than other types of tooth pain. This can be accompanied by other symptoms including:

  • Gum pain and swelling
  • Pain when chewing or applying pressure
  • Hot/cold sensitivity that doesn’t go away

The pain you feel is caused by the infection in the tooth. Root canal treatment removes damaged tissue therefore relieving the pain you feel.  A root canal has the reputation of being painful, but the procedure itself is painless. A local anesthetic numbs the tooth and surrounding area. Many teeth fixed with a root canal can last a lifetime.

There are a couple of things you can do to minimize the need for a root canal.

  • Brush and floss everyday. This helps to remove bacteria that can lead to decay.
  • Dental cleanings every six months. This cleaning is more thorough and can remove more plaque than what you can at home.

Drs. Ricciuti, Albanese and Moore will help figure out if you need a root canal or if there is something else causing the pain. If you’re experiencing any of the above-mentioned symptoms give us a call.
