While general dentistry can help prevent many dental problems, we understand that dental emergencies do occur. Our dentists are readily available to our patients so that dental advice can be given and emergency dentistry care can be scheduled as soon as possible. Unfortunately, our policy does not allow for walk-ins or new patient emergency treatments.
Care When You Need It
Many major dental problems can be avoided with the practice of good oral hygiene habits and continued professional dental care. However, there are times when a dental emergency may occur. Issues such as injury, severe tooth pain, or damage to previous dental work can arise unexpectedly. We can provide the emergency dentistry they require at our Long Island practice.
At 4Excellence in Dentistry, we recommend that our patients schedule re-care dental appointments every six months so that their oral health can be routinely monitored. But what if something happens between appointments that require our attention? Symptoms or situations that should be examined immediately by one of our dentists include:
- Tooth pain and/or swelling around the tooth
- An abscess on the gums
- Chipped or cracked tooth
- A partially dislodged or knocked out tooth
- Lost filling or crown
If our patients experience any of these symptoms, emergency dentistry is available at our practice.
Same Day Appointments
Dental emergencies that occur during normal business hours will be accommodated on the same day. Although our dentists maintain full appointment schedules, we purposefully allot for time in case one of our patients experiences a dental emergency. As soon as symptoms occur, contact our office and our staff will schedule a same day appointment at the earliest availability.
During the appointment, the injured tooth will be examined and appropriate treatment will be determined. We focus on both restorative dentistry and cosmetic dentistry, so any functional or cosmetic problems that may have resulted from the injury can be addressed. If the injury requires dental restorations, temporary restorations will be placed at the appointment so that patients can comfortably maintain oral function while permanent restorations are being fabricated in the dental laboratory.
After-hours Emergency Dentistry
Our office does not normally schedule after-hour emergency dental appointments. However, we do have a paged messaging service in place during the hours that our office is closed. This allows our dentists to be contacted after hours in case one of our patients requires emergency dentistry care. In most cases, our dentists will contact the patient via phone to evaluate the situation and offer any advice for care and/or pain management until a dental appointment can be scheduled. As soon as our office is open for regular care, an appointment will be scheduled so that appropriate treatment can be provided.
In the rare case of severe dental emergencies, our dentists may make after-hours care arrangements with long-term patients. This is not our usual practice and will only be available at our dentists’ discretion.
